Answer: Research objectives describe concisely what the research is trying to achieve. They summarize the accomplishments a researcher wishes to achieve through the project and provides direction to the study.
The correspondent overall objective should be written as an infinitive sentence e.g.: “To analyse the association between nutritional knowledge and the nutritional status of pregnant women attending antenatal care (ANC) in Northern Uganda.
Objectives usually refer to the effect of the product on specific safety and efficacy variables, at specific points in time, in specific groups of subjects. An efficacy study may have many individual efficacy objectives, as well as one or two safety objectives; a safety study may or may not have efficacy objectives.
When writing your objectives try to use strong positive statements. Strong verbs - collect, construct, classify, develop, devise, measure, produce, revise, select, synthesise Weak verbs - appreciate, consider, enquire, learn, know, understand, be aware of, appreciate, listen, perceive.
In general, research objectives describe what we expect to achieve by a project. Research objectives are usually expressed in lay terms and are directed as much to the client as to the researcher. Research objectives may be linked with a hypothesis or used as a statement of purpose in a study that does not have a hypothesis.
